The 2019 11th District and 12th District Spring Meetings for the Upper Peninsula Association of American Legion Posts (UPAALP) will both be held Saturday.

The 11th District Meeting will be at Engadine Post 290. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. EDT. Eleventh District Commander Wendy Sexton will be there. Lunch at a nominal cost will be provided.

The 12th District Meeting will be at Hancock Post No. 186. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. EDT. Twelfth District Commander Wendy Retzloff will be there. Lunch will be available at a nominal cost and will be served after the meeting.

The annual UPAALP Legislative Dinner will be held at Post 50 on River Avenue in Iron Mountain April 27. People may call Post 50 at 906-774-5797 or 906-282-1474 to reserve tickets ($20 each) until April 22.

Every post should be represented by one or two members with their Legion caps. The dinner is open to the Sons of the American Legion as well as American Legion Auxiliary members. A full slate of their elected officials is expected to attend. Cocktails are at 5 p.m., and dinner at 6:30. This is the time to discuss issues with legislators. as it is important for legislators to know that the American Legion Posts want them to back veteran issues.

The Upper Peninsula Association of American Auxiliary will have its spring meeting May 4 at the Powers Post 244. Lunch will be at noon with the meeting to follow at 1.

The 2019 UPAALP Summer Convention will be held at Post No. 146 in Menominee June 14 and 15. Further information on the Summer Convention will be sent out at a later date.

If someone knows a Legion member that is deserving of recognition for longtime American Legion service in their Post, they may contact Carl Morrison at 906-360-7076, for information on nominating that person for U.P. Legionnaire of the Year. The Legionnaire of the Year for 2018 was awarded to Gary Lane of Stambaugh Post No. 21 at the U .P. Summer Convention in Iron Mountain. The committee is looking for potential awardees at the Summer Convention.
