KINGSFORD, Mich. — The Menominee girls' tennis team placed fourth at last week's U.P. Finals.

Negaunee won the team title with 18 points, with Marquette coming in second (13) and Escanaba taking third (8).

The Maroons had three second-place finishes and a third place finish.

"I was very happy with the way the girls played," Menominee coach Nikki Mathieu said. "We're a young team and to win a title we needed a little more depth."

Jenna Nolde placed second at No. 3 singles, falling to Negaunee's Lexi Peterson 7-5, 6-1 in the finals. Ely Wellner and Kendall Klatt took second at No. 1 doubles. They fell to Negaunee's Abby Nelson and Mykenna Kontio 6-4, 7-5 in the finals. Allie Nolde and Olivia Badker also placed second at No. 2 doubles.

"It's bittersweet that the season is over," Mathieu said, "but I'm already looking forward to the winter tennis to work with the girls. This group of girls want it bad now that they have a little taste of it. I believe they will work hard in the offseason."
