Boivin wrestling well for Pointers early in season

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Marinette’s Jaden Boivin helped clinch UW-Stevens Point’s dual wrestling victory over UW-Oshkosh on Monday.

Boivin won by fall at 165 pounds to swing the momentum back in favor of the Pointers in a 25-15 win in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual. Boivin pinned Oscar Ramos in 4:26. His six points gave the Pointers a 17-9 lead.

At the season-opening Pointer Open on Nov. 4, Boivin won two matches to place sixth. Boivin won two bouts at Saturday’s CUW Open in Mequon, Wis.

Marinette seventh-graders take down Oconto

OCONTO — Marinette’s seventh-grade boys’ basketball team defeated Oconto 35-20 on Monday.

Marinette jumped out to a 10-4 first-quarter lead and never trailed. Brett Nygren and Tanner Fayta scored 13 points apiece to lead Marinette. Dominic Smerchek added five.

For Oconto, Kippor Gering and Connor Christensen scored six apiece.

Jets sweep middle school games against Menominee

POWERS — North Central won seventh-and-eighth-grade boys’ basketball games over Menominee on Tuesday.

Aiden Bellisle scored 11 points for Menominee in a 31-25 eighth-grade loss. Cooper Conway added six points and six rebounds and Brady Badker led the Maroon defense.

Luke Gorzinski led North Central with 16 points and Alex Naser added eight.

Jesse Samson scored seven and Dylan Plunger added six for North Central’s seventh-graders in a 33-11 win. Michael Hensley scored seven to lead Menominee. Lance Marineau and Kaden Starzynski added two apiece.
