Walleye bite at Fish Fites
MENOMINEE — Bass action slowed but the walleye action was hot for some at this week’s Thursday Nite Fish Fites.
Brian Clairmont reeled in a 23.5-inch walleye to win that category during Week 5. David Roland took second with a 21-incher and Rick Hansen (19.75) was third.
Bob Getchell won the bass category with an 18-incher that wouldn’t have cracked the top three in previous weeks. Josh Nerat took second with a 16.25-inch bass and Tony Getchell was third with a 15.5-incher.
A total of 21 anglers registered five bass and three walleyes.
The event is co-sponsored by Nestegg Marine, Viper Tackle and Never Snag Tackle.
Kramer wins UPGA Junior event
MENOMINEE — Menominee’s Evan Kramer shot a 76 to win the 16-18 division at the UPGA Junior Tour event at Riverside Golf Club July 13.
Rudy Peterson of Gladstone’s Terrace Bluff was second.
Emma Hofer, of Menominee, won the 16-18 girls division with a 112, and high-school teammate Arikah Bellisle finished one stroke back.
Josie Hofer won the 14-15 girls title with a 115.
Menominee’s Kaiden Bailey won the 13 and under division with an 88.
Baumans finish high at Little River
MARINETTE — Little River Country Club held its Junior Golf Championship this week.
Adam Bauman shot a 42 to win the nine-hole 14 & over championship, and Hayden Myers and Jace Moker each shot 53 to tie for second.
Sydney Lund turned in a 28 to win the six-hole 12-13 girls’ championship, and Emma Heider was second with a 35.
For the 12-13 boys, Keegan Polomis won with a 35, and Grant Bauman carded a 37.
Audra Bauman won the six-hole girls’ championship with a 41, and Kennedy Polomis was second with a 52.
Theron Thayer won the six-hole boys’ title with a 31, and Brady Eastman turned in a 33.
Regan Hermanson carded a 21 to win the three-hole girls competition, and Maddie Drees finished one stroke back.
For the boys’ three-hole, Connor Eastman won with a 19, and Isaac Hermanson turned in a 20.
Whistler, Skoal, B Haven win races
MENOMINEE — Whistler, skippered by Bob Bannow and Jim Beyer, won the Division 1A race at the M&M Yacht Club Wednesday Night Fun Race at the Great Lakes Memorial Marina. Flash Gordon finished second.
Skoal won the Division 1B race, followed by In the Red.
Skipper Karen Thyne led B Haven to a win at Division 2, and Betsy B, skippered by Ken Kreider, took second.
