MARINETTE — The M&M hockey team won both its games over Marquette at home on Sunday.

The Thunder scored four goals in both the first and second periods to win the opening game 9-2. Cade Fernstrum scored three goals, including two in the opening period. Alexander Freeman had two goals while Wesley Knutson had a goal and four assists. Justin Netemeyer, Ethan Koch and Brandon Bruning added one goal each.

Nyia Patneaude saved 15 of the 17 shots she faced in the Thunder goal; they outshot Marquette 54-17 in the first game.

Knutson had the hat trick for M&M in the second game that finished with a 5-3 win. The Thunder took a 3-1 lead in the first period but two unanswered second-period goals from Marquette tied the game at 3-3 heading into the third.

Netemeyer and Jordan Carvenough added goals for the Thunder; Matthew Swenson had two assists and Jason Bowers had one. Braeden Park had 18 saves for M&M.

The Thunder improved to 7-2-1 overall and visit both Negaunee, Mich., and Houghton, Mich., this weekend.
