WAUSAUKEE — The Wausaukee softball team advanced to the regional semifinals with a 9-2 win over Oneida Nation on Tuesday.

Wausaukee, the top seed in its bracket, improved to 13-7 on the season while Oneida Nation fell to 1-12. The Rangers advance to play fifth seeded Goodman/Pembine on Thursday.

The Rangers got an RBI single from Kaelyn Schlies and an RBI triple from Madelyn Schlies during a three-run first inning.

That turned out to be all the support that Allison Versaskas required. Versaskas picked up the win after allowing two runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out five.

Oneida put a pair of runners on in the top of the first, but Versaskas induced a double play to help get out of the jam.

The Thunderhawks got on the board in the fifth. After an error extended the inning, Mariah Barber knocked in a run and McKenzie Ackley came around to score and cut the margin to 3-2.

Wausaukee extended its lead in the fourth when Amber Caylor singled and later scored on a wild pitch and Callie Orlando and Versaskas ripped run-scoring safeties.

Kylee Smith and Madelyn Schlies led off the fifth with back to back singles and both scored on a hit from Avery Bartles. Versaskas capped the scoring in the sixth when she reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced on a single from Kaelyn Schlies and scored on a wild pitch.

Kaelyn and Madelyn Schlies keyed the offensive effort, going a combined 4-for-7 at the plate with two RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Thursday’s regional semifinal is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch in Wausaukee.

TOMAHAWK, Wis. — All good things do come to an end and for the Peshtigo softball team, the season ended on Tuesday.

Facing a challenging Tomahawk team for its Division 3 regional semifinal game, the Bulldogs scored first, but ultimately fell 7-1.

Grace Wickman got the Bulldogs on the board in the first inning as she reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Kennedy Chmela.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead until the fourth when Tomahawk plated two runs. Katy Volz doubled and scored on an error and Molly Mott drilled an RBI double to make it a 2-1 game.

Two more runs were scored by the hatchets in the fifth and three more, led by an RBI single by Mott were added in the sixth to put the game away.

Mott was the winning pitcher for Tomahawk, giving up one run on four hits with eight strikeouts.

Suffering the loss for Peshtigo (12-10) was Grace Meyers, who allowed seven runs on four hits with six K’s.
