PESHTIGO — Taking command early, Peshtigo plated eight runs in the first three innings en route to a decisive 12-2 victory over Gillett/Suring in its WIAA Division 3 regional opener on Thursday.

Brandon Eick drilled an RBI triple and Brody Heroux roped an RBI single in the first inning to put the Bulldogs on top 2-0.

Three more Peshtigo runs came across in the second inning, led by a two-run single by Nick Nielson and another run-scoring base hit by Eick.

After Gillett/Suring cut the deficit to 5-2 in the third, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the third, led by a double by Nolan Lemke which was followed by a run-scoring sacrifice flyout by Mitch Peters and doubles by Jake Gordon and Darren Dionne.

Peshtigo put the game away with three more runs in the fifth, led by a two-run double by Heroux and finished the game with a base hit in the sixth.

Four Bulldog pitchers took the mound. Nick Nielson started the game and earned the win, tossing two innings of one-hit, scoreless baseball. Dionne allowed two runs in two innings and both Landon Lemke and Heroux tossed one scoreless inning a piece.

Peshtigo, the No. 1 seed, will play host to Northland Pines, the five seed, on Tuesday.
