ONEIDA, Wis. — The St. Thomas Aquinas Academy girls basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back as the shorthanded Cavalettes lost to Oneida Nation 79-42 Tuesday night.

Oneida Nation got out to a 17-2 lead on STAA and while the Cavalettes were able to play better after the slow start, the Thunderhawks’ lead was too much to overcome.

STAA was forced to play with four girls due to one of its players having the flu and coach Mark Simon was pleased with how his team played.

“I’m very proud of how hard they played,” he said.

Alexa Pristelski made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points for STAA and Hallie Beranek had 10.

STAA hosts Gillett on Friday.
