GREEN BAY — A Marinette Legion baseball team that was cruising through a magical summer and heading toward the state tourney has suddenly hit a rocky road.

Marinette suffered its third straight loss, 7-6, to the Green Bay Shockers on Wednesday night. For the second time in three games, Post 39 blew a comfortable lead. This time, the Shockers scored six runs in the final three innings to erase a 6-1 deficit.

“Obviously disappointed,” Marinette coach Brian Lesandrini said. “We had a good start, and then we seemed to lose focus. Very disappointed in two of the last three games to blow leads late in the game. Just not disciplined down the stretch.”

A walk, a single on a sacrifice bunt attempt and a swinging bunt led to the winning run for the Shockers.

Marinette starter Trey Bretl pitched well through four innings before allowing four runs in the fifth. Bretl struck out four, walked five and allowed six hits.

Brandon Eick started Marinette’s three-run third inning with a base hit. Trevor Bloch reached on an error and Adam Wahl hit a two-out RBI double and scored on a passed ball.

Bloch led off Marinette’s three-run fifth inning with a leadoff bunt single. Austin Marquardt and Wahl each reached on an error to load the bases with no outs. Nick Daye singled in a run and Rylie Nelson hit an RBI groundout. Another run scored on a passed ball for a 6-1 lead.

Post 39 loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but came up empty.

Marinette, 17-7, will play at Menominee today at 7 p.m.
