SURING — The Suring girls basketball team improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in M&O Conference play with a 66-25 home win over St. Thomas Aquinas Academy (1-5, 0-4) on Thursday.

St. Thomas Aquinas stayed in the contest through the first half, but the Eagles outscored the Cavaliers 43-9 in the second half to run away with the win.

Four Eagles reached double figures in scoring, led by Paige Krueger’s game-high 17. Jaden Bubolz added 14, while Wylee VanBellinger and Stephanie Huth finished with 10 points each. Halle Beranek led the Cavaliers with 12 points, while Alexa Pristelski finished with 11.

Beranek and Pristelski each scored seven points in the first half to keep their team close (23-16) going into halftime before the Eagles’ big second half.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday. St. Thomas Aquinas hosts Crivitz while Suring hosts Wausaukee.

¦ The Crivitz girls basketball team was held to 13 points in the second half of a 50-42 loss to Oneida on Thursday.

Chloe Gruszynski had a team-high 15 points, including eight in the first half to keep the Wolverines within a basket of Oneida at halftime, 31-29. She sank a pair of 3-pointers before halftime while Oneida’s McKenzey Ackley also had eight points in the first half.

Gruszynski and Emalee Johnson were the only Wolverines with multiple baskets in the second half but the Indians were nearly able to match Crivitz’ second-half point total at the free throw line alone. They went 11-for-14 at the line in the second half while the Wolverines were just 1-for-2.

Sadie Schuman led the Indians with 15 points and was 8-for-8 at the line. Ackley finished with 14 points.

Johnson had 11 points for Crivitz; Riley Mueller and Kieren Gribben had four points each.

Crivitz has a week off before hosting Niagara next Friday.
