NEW LONDON, Wis. — The Coleman wrestling team continued to march through its competition and took first place at the Cutler Classic Invitational on Saturday.

Coleman wrestlers combined for a team-score of 278, 78 points better than second-place finisher Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln (200), while De Pere finished in third with 184. The Cougars had 13 grapplers competing on the varsity team and 10 of them finished in the top three of their respective weight classes, including five first-place winners.

Will Bieber (126), Karson Casper (138), John Bieber (182), Shamus McLain (195) and Brody Zahn (220) all took home first place for Coleman. Kasper defeated Andrew Lopez of De Pere by a 4-2 decision, Bieber took down Weyawega-Fremont’s Ben Strehlow with a pin in 4:16, Zahn earned a 6-2 decision over Josh Hansen of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, Bieber pinned Oshkosh North’s Dylan Desaw in 4:34 and McLain needed only 1:05 to pin Andrew Schutz of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Sam Kuchta (145), Tyler Blanchard (160), Cole Klimek (170) and Spencer Karban (285) were second-place finishers, with Kuchta dropping his first-place match to De Pere’s Sam Bruss by a 7-5 decision, Aiden Vandenbush of Random Lake defeated Blanchard by a 7-0 decision, Klimek fell to Random Lake’s Samuel Schwabe by a 3-1 decison and Karban lost via pin fall to Menasha’s Cullen Quick in 4:32.

Ray LeMieux (113) took home third place after defeating Menasha’s Patrick Gugala-Reinders with an 8-0 major decision, Chance Gruber (120) was fifth after winning with a 4-2 decision over Josh Black of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, John Nowak (106) finished sixth and Jakob Horton (152) came in seventh to round out the day for Coleman’s varsity squad.

In JV A action, Owen Kinziger (152) finished first while Lexus Baars (106) was second. Noah Chang (145) placed third in JV B competition while John Zirbel (220) finished first, and Coby DenRuyter (182), Ramiro Cortez (160) were first for the JV team while Jayden Scott (195) was third.
