MARINETTE — The 2019-2020 UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Athletic Awards banquet was moved to an online presentation this year due to the events of COVID-19 and was held earlier in the week.

“Our campus is extremely proud of our student athletes on and off the court,” UWGB-Marinette CEO Cindy Bailey stated. “We are fortunate to have outstanding coaches who demonstrate and encourage dedication and balance to our student athletes in and out of the classroom.”

Under the direction of head coach Dan Porath and assistant coaches Scott Ries and Sara Pettit, the women’s volleyball athletes were named for the following awards: Most Valuable Players — Faith Jorasz, Ashlee Mayer; Most Improved Player — Kiana Bulin, Abby Wingender; Setter of the Year — Jorasz; All-Tournament Team — Jorasz, Mayer; WCC First Team All-Conference — Jorasz, Mayer; WCC Second Team All-Conference — Sierra Adams, Breanne Bedgood, Brianne Burnett.

As a team, the Lady Bucs squad were the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference tournament champions, defeating a very tough UW-Milwaukee/Washington team in straight sets to take their first WCC title since 2002.

In women’s basketball under coach Tyler Morris, Bri Burnette was named Most Valuable Player and Second Team All-Conference and Abby Wingender was given Most Improved Player. In other awards, Susan Janas was given the Hustle Award; Hannah Swanson earned the Outstanding Teammate award; Paige Reiswitz and Swanson were named Honorable Mention All-Conference and Sarah Barrette earned the WCC Academic All-Conference award.

Under the direction of head coach Bryan Wickstron, men’s basketball athletes were named for the following awards: Most Valuable Player — Preston Lauscher; Most Improved Player — Bryson Groos; Selfless Teammate Award — Jacob Kleiman; Top Defensive Player — Cam Willemsen; Hard Charger Award (demonstration of extraordinary effort on and off the court) — Ty Thomas; Leadership Award — Lauscher, Willemsen; Coaches Award (demonstration of passion for the game with continuous development) — Jordan Janofski; WCC All-Conference Eastern Division First Team — Willemsen; WCC Eastern Division All-Defensive Team — Willemsen; WCC All-Conference Eastern Division Second Team — Lauscher.

The campus would also like to recognize student athletes that excelled not only on the court but also in their academics with the following student athlete academic awards: Scholastic Honor Roll (GPA of 3.0 for two semesters with a completion of at least 24 credits during the academic year) — Breanne Bedgood, Jordan Janofski; WCC Academic All-Conference Award (3.0 GPA over 12 credits or more) — Athena Cross; WCC Distinguished Academic All-Conference Award (3.5 GPA over 12 credits or more) — Sarah Barrette, Breanne Bedgood, Kianna Bulin, Ty Thomas.
