OCONTO — A deadly house fire occurred in Oconto on Friday morning.

A press release from the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office states the office’s emergency dispatch was notified of the structure fire in the 900 block of Fabry Street at approximately 2:53 a.m. The Oconto Police Department and Oconto Fire and Rescue Department both responded to the scene.

The fire crews suppressed the fire, but during their efforts four people and one pet were found dead inside. Identification of the victims and notification of the next-of-kin is pending. 

The Oconto police and fire departments were assisted at the scene by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Pensaukee Fire Department, Bellvue Fire Department and the Wisconsin Fire Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. 

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the City of Oconto Police Department, county sheriff’s office, the Department of Criminal Investigations and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
