MARINETTE — The City of Marinette announced Friday that the first deadline for applications for its Façade Improvement Program is March 1 of this year.
The City of Marinette has 50/50 Façade Improvement Program (FIP) grant money for up to $10,000 for commercial/retail buildings in the downtown and Menekaunee Harbor areas, including businesses along Ogden and Hosmer Streets. The goal of the FIP is to encourage improvements that stress the historic significance and uniqueness of downtown structures through building restoration.
The city’s financial participation would be 50 percent of the eligible rehabilitation improvement project cost. In order to receive a maximum $10,000 return, the total project dollar amount paid for façade or outer area improvements must reach or exceed $20,000; enhance the appearance of the downtown/Menekaunee Harbor location; and have a spokesperson present at the FIP committee meeting, for which the date and time are yet to be determined.
There are two grant application deadlines available: March 1 with the completion date no later than Dec. 31 of the current year, and Sept. 1 with a completion date no later than Dec. 31 of the following year.
Funding is limited, with preference given to commercial properties seeking to restore historic character to the buildings. This grant has continued due to the positive improvements to the downtown area.
Applications are available at the City website,, under the Residents/Forms dropdown, and a complete list of rules may be obtained under the Departments/Mayor/Façade Improvement Program dropdown. Those with questions can contact Jan at the Community Development Office, 1905 Hall Ave., at 715-732-5139.
