OCONTO — On Saturday at 9:01 p.m., the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch Center received a report of a missing fisherman in an area south of the dam on the Oconto River in Oconto Falls.

A search team consisting of Oconto County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, City of Oconto Falls Police, Fire and EMS deployed into the early morning hours to search the area and did not locate the missing person.

On Sunday, a second extensive search of the river, shoreline and numerous islands was conducted by the search team. The 38-year-old missing fisherman from Little Chute, Wis., was located in the river, deceased.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance: Oconto Falls Police Department, Oconto Falls Fire Department, Oconto Falls Ambulance, Oconto Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Brazeau Dive Team and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.

This incident remains under investigation by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
