MENOMINEE COUNTY SHERIFF

■ Deputies responded to a three-vehicle traffic crash on County Road 577 in Lake Township at 1:36 p.m. Oct. 21. A vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Stephenson man failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of County Road 356 and struck two vehicles that were traveling on County Road 577.  The vehicle that was hit first was southbound on County Road 577 and was driven by Croy Smith, 36, Norway, which caused his vehicle to be pushed into the ditch and overturn. A passenger in that vehicle was fatally injured when the vehicle overturned. The second vehicle that was hit by the 19-year-old Stephenson man was traveling north bound on County Road 577 and was driven by Perry Kellner, 59, Daggett. Kellner sustained minor injuries during the crash. The 19-year-old Stephenson man and his passenger a 21-year-old Stephenson man were both transported to the hospital for their injuries. All three vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed. Charges are pending against the 19-year-old Stephenson man.

■ A deputy responded at 4:26 p.m. Oct. 23 to a one-vehicle rollover accident in Nadeau Township. A passerby observed a vehicle in the ditch on its roof and called it in. The vehicle was found to be unoccupied. After further investigation the driver, Fawn Patton, 28, Beecher, was found at her residence. She was arrested for no driver’s license and cited for careless driving and expired registration plates.

■ Deputies were dispatched to a possible domestic assault occurring in a vehicle that was traveling north on U.S. 41 in Stephenson Township at 8:21 a.m. Oct. 24. The caller stated they could see the passenger hitting the driver while he was driving. The vehicle was located and an investigation was conducted which lead to the arrest of Nicole Palmer, 23, Rapid River, Mich., for domestic assault.

■ A deputy responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26 on County Road 354 in Stephenson Township. A vehicle driven by Charles Reitmeyer, 72, Stephenson, was attempting a left-hand turn into a private drive when a vehicle driven by Keith Manning, 26, Stephenson, attempted to pass Reitmeyer causing both vehicles to collide. Manning indicated that he did not see his turn signal in time so instead of rear-ending him, Manning attempted to pass. Manning was issued a citation for unable to stop in an assured clear distance and was released.

■ A deputy was dispatched to a residence in Harris Township for a possible fraud complaint at 11:20 a.m. Oct. 26. The caller stated she believed her daughter had been scammed. The daughter had received a letter from her bank informing her that she owed a large amount of money from a check that was deposited by mobile deposit. The daughter’s bank has froze her account and is currently investigating the situation.

■ A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speed at 11:38 p.m. Oct. 26 on US 41 in Menominee Township. The driver, Gordon Hicks, 56, South Lyon, Mich., was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
