Man gets prison for DWI
MARINETTE — A Wausaukee man was sentenced to one year six months prison Friday in Marinette County Circuit Court Branch 1 for driving while intoxicated — fourth offense.
Paul R. Bender, 60, was also sentenced to two years extended supervision, 36 months ignition interlock device and 36 months license revoked.
He cannot drive a vehicle without a valid license; must maintain absolute sobriety to include no possession or consumption of alcohol, illegal drugs, intoxicating substances or any other substances without a valid prescription and cannot enter or have presence in any establishment whose primary purpose is the sale of alcohol.
Board of Canvassers to meet
PESHTIGO — The Peshtigo School District will be canvassing the results of the primary election held today. The canvass will include review of all ballots cast on election day, as well as late-arriving absentee or outstanding provisional ballots. Upon completion of the public canvass, election results will be certified.
WPS, Menards seek variance approvals
MARINETTE — A meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Marinette will be held March 5 at 4 p.m. in City Hall 214 to review requested variances from Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) and Menards.
Menards is requesting a side setback of 16 feet, 4 feet less than the 20 feet provided by city codes, and a rear setback of 11 feet, 9 feet less than the 20 feet provided by city codes, for a proposed accessory building at land parcels No. 251-599.18 and No. 251-599.5. WPS is requesting a side setback of 8 feet off the side lot line instead of the 20 feet required for a proposed odorization building at parcel No. 251-00164.008.
Property owners with property 200 feet from the properties in question are welcome to attend and voice their opinion on the variance requests.
Service length for Wednesday clarified
MENOMINEE — The Bethel and Emmanuel Lutheran congregation’s midweek Lenten services at Bethel, 13th Street and 14th Avenue, will be a half an hour long, not an hour and a half, as was published Monday on the Community Page. The service, “Baptism’s call to discipleship,” will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and the soup supper will begin at 5 p.m.
