“In 1999, Marinette Schools spent $28 million to update every school building in the district, only to close several schools due to low enrollment districtwide within five years. Now they want $31-33 million from taxpayers to once again ‘right-size’ the schools.

The Marinette Community REC Center was an idea promoted by area hockey supporters for years. An unnecessarily large rec center was built but appears to be draining the city’s budget. Do you see a pattern here?

“The old BAMC building has been empty for 18 months. Historic Garfield school, which apparently the school district wants to close, is a work of art. How long will that stand empty and decaying?

“Simply put, our school board and city council — spectacularly stupid 20 years ago — still have no sense of fiscal responsibility.”
