In today’s edition, our readers will find our Progress section.

The word “progress” is defined in part as to move forward and onward toward a destination. That pretty much sums up the businesses, industries and other entities covered in this section.

We believe it’s important to highlight and showcase progress being made in our community. It’s our second year doing the Progress section, but we’ve done similar projects in the past with different titles.

In this year’s version, you will find stories on some of “big” things that happened in 2019, along with a few story lines that may be new to our readers.

What’s being done at Fincantieri Marinette Marine simply cannot be overstated. FMM, with its continued production of the littoral combat ships (LCS) and other potential contracts, has provided a huge economic jolt to this community.

The local shipyard continues to evolve, continues to progress and continues to create jobs. With many state and federal dignitaries visiting here in 2019, including Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer, FMM has become a must-stop destination.

FMM has not come close to resting on its laurels, rather it’s going “full throttle” into 2020.

Other industries — such as KK Integrated Logistics and L.E. Jones — are included in this issue, along with smaller businesses Menza and Zak and True Blue Auto Repairs and Customs.

Two of the biggest stories of 2018 — the new hospital and the new Community REC Center — continued to evolve in 2019 and we have details about that.

We have stories about the advancements at the Menominee Opera House, the New Life Church and an innovative new program at the Rainbow House Domestic Abuse Shelter that is sure to help victims of domestic violence.

It’s impossible to include all the progress made in our area in a special section. We believe we covered some of the major topics and sprinkled in many other deserving subjects. We hope you enjoy and may 2020 provide even more progress to our great community.
