Dear Editor,

Welcome to Democratic Socialism. How are you doing financially, socially and personally now that we are being denied our constitutional rights? I’m sure you don’t like being restricted to your official residence while all businesses are closed, except for those that the government decrees may be open, such as abortion clinics and marijuana and liquor stores. Too bad you lost your job; too bad you lost your business. But it’s all for the good of society. See how easy it was to temporarily give up your constitutional rights?

Socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. So, just as the present rules for fighting the Wuhan virus are based on imperfect government models, that same method is used for everything in socialism; what kind of toilet paper to make, what kinds of foods, how much to grow, who gets it, how, when, where, why, etc. Under socialism, everyone is equal, except the rulers are more equal.

The only reason for sheltering in place was to prevent the spread of the virus from overwhelming the hospital system handling the crush of cases. Once the curve was flattened, we were supposed to leave our homes and go back to work. Well, the hospitalizations from the projected 2 million deaths, then 1 million, 200,000, 100,000 never occurred. Emergency hospitals and ships were mostly unused while other hospitals are laying off doctors and personnel because no elective surgery, which pays the bills, is allowed.

Liberal governors extend the shelter order (to June or a vaccine) making further restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus. That was not the purpose of sheltering everybody. Sheltering delays the inevitable spread of a virus until the herd rate of approximately 95% immunity is reached, with or without a vaccine. This change of purpose is the back door to socialism.

Think long and hard, those free promises of socialism will destroy the jobs, economy and spirit of the United States. Socialism has never worked wherever it has been tried. Socialism is easily voted in but can only be removed by force of arms. This November, you have a life-changing decision to make, socialism or individual freedom. God help and bless the United States of America.
