Dear Editor,

We would like to thank the administration, teachers, and staff of the Peshtigo School District for their dedication to the students of this community and their innovative approaches and flexibility in transitioning to virtual learning.

In a typical school year, our administrators guide and support the teachers and staff, the teachers educate the students, and the staff help make the school day run smoothly. Our bus drivers, crossing guards, and playground supervisors watch over children’s safety before and after school. Our secretaries, custodians, kitchen staff, technology personnel and maintenance team keep the buildings operating seamlessly every day and provide a safe, welcoming atmosphere. Our teachers provide high-quality education and care to students throughout the school day.

This, however, was an unconventional year for schools around the globe. While we started with traditional instruction, the district had to make a sudden shift to virtual learning for all students. In the midst of the concern for the health and safety of our students, school personnel, and families, the Peshtigo School District did an incredible job of adapting to the circumstances. Administrators communicated regular updates, reached out to families without in-home internet or computers, and coordinated the logistics of delivering free breakfast and lunch to families in need. Through it all, our teachers kept students engaged in learning new skills, provided virtual contact with classmates, and coached parents to help their children complete assignments.

Next year may provide similar challenges, but we are confident that our administrators, teachers, and staff will rise to the occasion and provide Peshtigo students with the first-rate education for which our district is known.
