Dear Editor,

I read with interest the (column) by Donald Lambro in Wednesday’s (Nov. 13) EagleHerald edition. ‘‘Trump has his work cut out for him ... “

The third paragraph is especially upsetting, in which he quotes the Washington Post that in Marinette and Menominee “a slew of major employers ... have closed.” Someone certainly failed to “fact-check” that one. It is that kind of careless and misleading reporting that gives our “Fearles” leader an excuse to cry “Fake news!” That is also indicative of how out of touch the mainstream media are concerning the real USA.

Lambro lists a number of statistics from the polls; but polls are famously misleading and pollsters can phrase their questions to bring about the results they desire. Before Ronald Reagan’s landslide victory in 1980, most of the pollsters claimed that the election would be close. In 1948, all the polls claimed that Harry Truman would be decisively defeated, leading to one of the most infamous headlines in publishing history: “Dewey Defeats Truman”.

Another claim is that the economy grew at a “sluggish” 1.9% in the third quarter of 2019. Hmm ... that growth, if sustained, would give an almost 8% growth for the year, and over 30% growth in one four-year presidential term. Not a bad economy at all!

I am not a fan of President Trump (”Der Furor”). He is a disgrace to the presidency and an embarrassment to the United States. If the other guys could find a candidate who has a clean record and has an even basic understanding of economics, I would vote for him — or even her. But telling lies and half-truths about Trump is not the best way to see him defeated in 2020.

Thank you for your fine newspaper.
