Richard A. “Cherd” Bruce, 64, of Marinette, Wis.,  passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 13, 2018. He was born May 30, 1953, in Menominee, Mich., the son of Walfred “Bud” and Viola (Brooks) Bruce.
      Richard graduated from Marinette Senior High School in 1971. He then spent a year living in a VW van in Alaska helping build a supply store for the Alaskan pipeline. When he returned home, he joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in February of 1977. In the fall of that year he started college at UW-Marinette and finished at UW-Oshkosh with a business degree. After graduation he started working at Sherwin-Williams in Marinette and was still employed there at the time of his death. In May of 2000, he married Bethany (Schroeder) Lindquist and acquired two daughters: Miranda and Lindsey. He was always good for a joke or two (or 10), enjoyed fishing and duck/goose hunting and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Beth; daughters: Miranda Lindquist and Lindsey (Ken) Larsen; two grandchildren: Emeline and Griffin Larsen; brothers: Tom (Mary), Steve, Tim (Tami) and Dave (Lisa); many nieces and nephews; his best friends and hunting buddies: Steve “the Dwarf” Malcolm and Don “Woody” Woodward; and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bud, and mother, Viola; step-mother, Joan; and a sister, Karen.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette on Friday, May 18, 2018, from 4 until 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Food and friendship will follow the service.
