Mary Louise (Bailey) Chernetski passed away on July 5, 2019, after a very short two-week battle with cancer at home holding hands with her beloved husband Rellen. Mary was born in Menominee, Mich., on Aug. 13, 1940, to Floyd and Mable Bailey.
Mary’s father Floyd died when she was an infant. Her mother Mable, married Frank “Sharky” Sharkus shortly thereafter. Mary always considered Frank her Father. On Aug. 15, 1959, she married the love of her life, Rellen Chernetski. Together, they raised three sons — inseparable friends and constant companions for almost 60 years of marriage they resided in Menominee their entire lives.
Mary retired from the Menominee Public Schools as the hot lunch lady, known as “Mrs. C.” She was always the life of the party, fun and energetic. Mary had a unique way of bringing people’s spirits up when they were down and could make anybody laugh. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed years of lunches, laughter and comradery with her many friends. Mary enjoyed a good glass of wine, going out to eat and entertaining in her home. It is rumored that QVC stock went down three points upon hearing of her death.
Mary is survived by her husband, Rellen; three sons: Tom, Brian (Mary), Rick (Natalie); six grandchildren: Rellen II, David, Danny (Jessie), Nicola (Gabe), Emily and Erin (Matt); two great-grandchildren; Pearl and Chase; nine nieces and nephews; her sister: Eleanor (Rip) VanWinkle; brother: Pat (Linda) Sharkus; and sister-in-law: Shirley (Elroy) Bailey. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention her three best friends: Debbie, Peggy and Joyce. She was preceded in death by her father; Floyd Bailey; mother: Mabel Sharkus; dad: Frank (Sharkey) Sharkus; brother: Elroy Bailey; sister: Francis (Sharkus); brother-in-law: Sahair (Sam) Namik; brother-in-law: Allen (Rip) VanWinkle; parents-in-law: Eugene and Eileen Chernetski; and brother-in-law: Dr. Kent Chernetski.
On Sunday, July 14, a memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Menominee, Mich. Visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m., until time of  Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Laatsch officiating. A graveside service will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
