Henry Charles Porras III, 72, of Mattawan, Mich., passed away from medical complications on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019. He was born March 19, 1947, to Henry II and Vivian (Jarrett) Porras in Menominee, Mich.
   Henry was raised on the family farm in Wallace, Mich., and graduated from Stephenson High School in the spring of 1965. Henry enrolled and attended a school of Cosmetology in Green Bay, Wis., in the fall of 1965 seeking certification in a nine-month program. He was called to serve in the U.S. Army two months before graduation and enlisted in order to choose the manner in which he could serve. Henry was a truck driver of deuce and a half truck convoys transporting troops, material and supplies throughout South Vietnam and was in country for 18 months. Upon being Honorably Discharged he re-enlisted in the Michigan State Army National Guard.
He served in the National Guard for 34 years before retirement with the rank of Master Sergeant. On July 3, 1969, Henry married his high school sweetheart, Lois Cory. They were wed in the First United Methodist Church of Stephenson. Once married, Henry and Lois moved to Mattawan where they purchased 12 acres of land and built a home. They had two children: Corina and Elizabeth. Henry enjoyed playing pool, fast cars, motorcycles, hunting and helping raise his grandchildren.
    Henry is survived by his two daughters: Corina and Elizabeth, five grandchildren: Daniel, Antonio, Connor, Laci and Tate; his mother, Vivian; brother, James (Terrie). He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Cory); father, Henry II; and brother, Gary.
