Geraldine “Gerry” Vandenberg, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Luther Home. She was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Sheboygan, Wis., to Adolph and Elsie (Dassey) Bauman.
    At a young age, she came to Marinette, Wis., with her family and was a graduate of Marinette High School, Class of 1940. After high school, Gerry worked at the former Eisendrath Glove Co. for a few years. On Sept. 1, 1945, she married Warren Vandenberg. Together they owned and operated Van’s Bar on First St. in Menominee, Mich., for 52 years. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1999. In earlier years, Gerry taught Sunday School in Marinette. She was a longtime member of the Menominee American Legion Auxiliary.
    Gerry is survived by four children: Steven Vandenberg of Menominee, Debbie (John) Brofka of Marinette, Jim (Patty) Vandenberg and Mark (Ruth) Vandenberg, both of Wallace, Mich.; 12 grandchildren: Mike, Shelie, Stacey, Kirsti, Kate, Brenda, Stevie, Brian, Carrie, Stephanie, Courtney and Jami; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jon; and a sister, Shirley Kaufman.
    Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette. Services will follow with Chaplain Karen Ann Hanson officiating.
    Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
    Gerry’s family extends a special thank you to the D Section staff at the Luther Home, the Activity Dept. at Luther Home; Unity Hospice and for the daily visits of her nurse practitioner. A memorial fund has been established.
