George Tomek, 95, of Marinette, Wis., passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Unity Hospice/Rennes-East after a short illness. He was born on Oct. 2, 1923, to the late George and Rose (Brabenetz) Tomek.
    After graduating from Menominee High School in 1942, he was drafted into World War II where he spent three years overseas as a cannoneer at battles including Normandy and Rhineland. After returning home, he sailed the Great Lakes on iron ore ships. In 1954, he married his sweetheart, Donna Behnke of Marinette. The couple eventually settled in Des Plaines, Ill. There, George worked at A.B. Dick Co. He was a lifelong golfer, winning and placing in many tournaments. He and Donna retired to Marinette.
    George is survived by his wife of 65 years; daughters: Jane Tomek and Nancy Tomek of Marinette, Wis.; son, Thomas (Paula) Tomek of Chicago, Ill; grandchildren: Leigh and Aiden; and brother, Robert Tomek of Menominee. Preceding him in death were sisters: Mary (Theodore) Kadlubowski and Emily (Charles) Meunier.
    No formal services will be held.
