Donald Michael Tenarvitz, 93, of Wallace, Mich., passed away peacefully on Aug. 5, 2019, with members of his family at his side. Don was born on Feb. 17, 1926, to Paul and Emaline (Tousignant) Tenarvitz and was a graduate of Menominee High School.
Don grew up in the Sobieski and 9-Mile Farm area of Menominee County, and married Eleanor Kosewski at St. Mary’s Catholic Mission. He and Eleanor were married for 54 years. Don proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was employed by both L.E. Jones Company and the Bell Packaging/Menominee Paper Company. Don had a long career at Menominee Paper Company, working in the Waxtex division for many years prior to becoming store room clerk. Don was always known for his wit and good sense of humor with his coworkers, and retired from Menominee Paper Company after 42 years of dedicated employment. Don belonged to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek, Mich., and was an active member of the Parish. He was also involved with the Menominee Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, the Menominee VFW Post 1887, The Menominee-Ingallston Volunteer Fire Department, Whitetails Unlimited, and U.P. Whitetails. Don cherished time spent with his family.  He and Eleanor enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Milwaukee Brewers games, and nearby casinos to play bingo. Don was a fan of polka music, Friday Fish Frys, bingo night, and the camaraderie of his bingo buddies. He enjoyed deer hunting, working in his garden, picking mushrooms and wild asparagus, and living life to the fullest extent possible. He especially enjoyed hunting season which brought him joy while visiting friends and relatives at deer camps, enjoying the peace and quiet at his favorite hunting blind “on the Ridge,” and telling tales of whitetail bucks that did and didn’t get away!  Don’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a kind, loving and understanding dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great grandpa.
Don is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, his sons-in-law: William and Samuel; seven grandchildren: William Jr., Michael, Christy, Patrick, Mac, Annie and Jim; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
