Arnold “Buck” Schmidt, 94, of Wallace, Mich., passed away at Roubal Care and Rehab Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019. He was born July 9, 1925, at home in the Greenwood area to the late Ben and Lilian (Bouer) Schmidt.
    Buck joined the United States Army during the World War II conflict and served his country proudly from 1943 until 1946. On July 19, 1947, he married Eva Dragic; she preceded him in death on July 21, 1989. He then married Lucille Lauerman on Sept. 7, 1990, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2000. Buck worked at Menominee Paper for 40 years and retired June 2, 1987. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, VFW Post 1887 of Menominee and the United Paper workers International Union Local 172 for 40 years. Buck greatly enjoyed going hunting, brook trout fishing and polka dancing.
    Buck is survived by his son, Douglas (Debbie) Schmidt of Wallace; son-in-law, Steve Tickler of Wallace; four grandchildren: Sharon (Jeff) Peretto, Brian (Kristy) Tickler, Heather (Michael) Lutz and Steve (Elizabeth) Schmidt. Buck is further survived by eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerry (Beverly) Schmidt; sister, Dixie Egofske; and many nieces and nephews. Buck was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Tickler; and brothers and sisters.
    Visitation for Buck will be Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at Anderson-Diehm Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. until time of military honors presented by the American Legion Post, Stephenson, Mich., at 1 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with Fr. Don Loskot officiating.
    Burial will be in the Mellen Township Cemetery.
