Stolen vehicle captured near Niagra

MARINETTE — The Marinette County Sheriff’s Department was notified that the Forest County Sheriff’s Department was in pursuit of a reported stolen pickup at about 9:23 p.m. Monday. According to Sheriff Jerry Sauve, the truck had been entered as stolen earlier in Tomahawk, Wis.

Sauve said Forest County Sheriff squads pursued the stolen truck into Marinette County on U.S. 8 to U.S. 141 and U.S. 8 when it went north. The vehicle was eventually stopped in the Town of Niagara.

Sauve said the suspect was ordered out of the vehicle but was uncooperative. It was also believed he could be armed as the owner of the truck had left his pistol in the door of the truck.

He said the suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident with the aid of Marinette County K-9 Cash, Niagara Police and Forest County deputies.

The suspect was alone in the truck and later identified as Dieter Sobtebier, 37, Minnesota. Sobtebier was wanted from Minnesota on warrants for narcotic charges, and his driving status was revoked

Sauve said Sobtebier was relayed by law enforcement back to Oneida County, where the vehicle was stolen. There were no injuries or damages to vehicles in the incident.
