Fire consumes home in Porterfield

TOWN OF PORTERFIELD — A house owned by Jeremy Thyes of Suamico caught fire Monday.

Wade Larsen, the fire chief of the Grover-Porterfield Fire Department, said firefighters were called to N7490 Menominee River Drive at 6:18 p.m. and battled the fire alongside the City of Marinette, Town of Peshtigo, Town of Lake and Town of Wagner fire departments until 10:05 p.m. They were also assisted by Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette County Sheriff’s Department and the Emergency Rescue Squad.

According to Larsen, Thyes’ residence is in Suamico and was at this house remodeling it with the intent to put it back on the market. Larsen said Thyes was up in Porterfield alone, and was outside the house when the fire was called in. Nobody else was in the house at the time, so there were no injuries as a result of the fire, the chief said.

Larsen said the cause of the fire is still unknown, and the case is still under investigation.
