OCONTO — A 2-year-old boy died Saturday night in the Town of Stiles, according to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office.

The county’s Emergency Dispatch Center received a call at 7:34 p.m. Saturday that a 2-year-old boy was went missing in a wooded area near the Oconto River in the Town of Stiles. Deputies, along with members from the Oconto Falls Fire and Rescue Department and the Oconto Falls Ambulance, responded to the scene and began searching for the missing child.

At about 8:30 p.m., the child was located unconscious in the river where life-saving measures began immediately, according to Sheriff Todd Skarban. He said the child was transported by ambulance to St. Clare Memorial Hospital where he died.

The investigation is being conducted by the sheriff’s office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
