STEPHENSON — Stephenson Area Public Schools will have a new superintendent and a new principal in the 2020/21. The board of education was updated on the search to fill both these positions Wednesday.

Principal Peggy Grille announced her retirement at the May 13 meeting. Superintendent Ron Kraft announced his resignation from his position for personal reasons, at the same meeting.

The board of education is actively searching for both positions and expect interviews to begin in July.

Steve Martin, superintendent of the Menominee County Intermediate School District, told the board that the Stephenson school staff have met to create the job description for principal. The description is now finalized an posted.

He said interviews are expected to begin July 9.

The superintendent position job description was finalized at an earlier board meeting and Board Member Charlie Cappaert said the position will close June 23.

As of Wednesday, seven candidates have already applied for the position. He explained that he did not know the names of any of the candidates, as they will remain anonymous until the position is closed.

The search will be further discussed at the board’s next scheduled meeting, July 13.

“We’re hoping to meet in person that day, so that we can discuss and develop interview questions and select candidates to interview,” Cappaert said.
