n Former Menominee man charged with second-degree murder in South Dakota

YANKTON, S.D. — A hearing scheduled Friday for Stephen R. Falkenberg, 45, Yankton, S.D., who was arrested in the death of Tamara LaFramboise, 46, Yankton, S.D., has been canceled.

LaFramboise’s body was found in the Little River in Menominee Township, March 19. Her body was found without her head, hands or feet. Falkenberg, a Menominee native with family in the area, was later arrested in Yankton for her death. He was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in the first degree. Second-degree murder is a Class B felony in South Dakota; if found guilty Falkenberg could face life in prison and up to $50,000. Manslaughter of the first degree is a Class C felony, also punishable by life in prison and up to $50,000.

Falkenberg’s next hearings are scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 4 and 10 a.m. Dec. 19. He is scheduled to begin a jury trial 9 a.m. Jan. 9, 2020.
