MARINETTE — The Salvation Army received $2,000 for “Women on the GO!” from the Women’s Giving Circle Endowment Fund held at the M&M Area Community Foundation. The Women’s Giving Circle Endowment Fund is designated for projects and programs which address issues directly impacting women and girls throughout Marinette and Menominee Counties. These funds will support women who are in need of help getting to work, getting their child to school, medical appointments or other emergency situations.

Transportation costs are often too high for families in need. They struggle to put gas in the car which means they miss work, the kids miss school or they miss their medical appointment. Missing work can mean losing a job, putting families in a continuous cycle of poverty and homelessness. “Women on the GO!” aims to meet these transportation needs by providing gas cards to women in Marinette and Menominee counties.

“Just days after receiving the check for ‘Woman on the Go!’ I was able to tell a woman I could help her get a bus ticket to see her dying father because of this grant. Transportation services is something I would have had to deny if she had called one week earlier.” Captain Rhegan Stansbury of The Salvation Army said, “We are so thankful for the support of the M & M Foundation and the Woman’s Giving Circle to be able to offer this type of assistance alongside our other programs.”
