PESHTIGO — Extension of Marinette County invites all gardeners to a free vegetable pest management workshop being held Tuesday at the Harmony Arboretum demonstration gardens, starting at 6:30 p.m. Horticulture Agent Scott Reuss will demonstrate the pest management practices that gardeners can use to help fight off the effects of our most common insects and diseases. He will have samples of some of these problems to display and discuss identification factors. Attendees are encouraged to bring samples of the problems that are currently showing up in their gardens.

Home gardens are a source of nutritious, great-tasting vegetables, as well as a great family activity. However, there are many insect and disease pests that can affect vegetable plants and cause damage to plants and frustration to gardeners.

Accurate diagnosis of the insect, disease, stress event or weed that gardeners are dealing with is critical to being able to manage the problem and prevent significant damage to desirable plants. Extension publications that detail management options gardeners can utilize to control and/or manage pests will also be available.

The Harmony Arboretum demonstration gardens are located at N3890 Marinette County Highway E, one half mile south of Highway. 64, seven miles west of Marinette. All persons are welcome to attend this free seminar.

If people have any questions, they may contact Scott at the Extension office, 715-732-7510 or toll-free at 1-877-884-4408. People can also email questions or photos of pest issues their plants are facing to sreuss@marinettecounty.com
