PESHTIGO — The City of Peshtigo Parks and Recreation Department will continue the Hometown Hero Banners project for the City of Peshtigo into 2019. The window for applications this year closes May 3. Banners will hang on street poles on French and Maple streets as well as a few on other streets in town. Normally, all of the Hometown Hero Banners are displayed yearly between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July weekend.

The Hometown Hero Banner Program is Peshtigo’s way of showing respect for those who are serving or have served us in the country’s armed services.

The banners are 55 inches high and 25 inches wide and have a red background with the slogan “Hometown Hero” on the top, all in white letters. Beneath the slogan and comprising most of the banner is a photo of the member of the military (provided by the family). The photo is ringed with white and blue stripes. Beneath the photo appears the name of the military member and the branch in which he or she is serving or has served. A sample banner can be viewed in the parks and recreation office.

New families interested in taking part in the program are encouraged to fill out an application form available at City Hall, 331 French St. The cost of $150 is intended to cover printing on one side of the banner and the cost of hanging the banners yearly (for approximately 5 years).

New banners this year will be limited to 30 new applicants.
