COLEMAN — The American Legion Auxiliary Marinette County Council’s February meeting, hosted by Coleman Unit 280, got underway with reports from the various units.
The Amberg Unit 428 is working on hats and scarves for the Child Protective Service Agency of Oconto County and the Athelstane/Silver Cliff Unit 66 volunteered and donated raffle items at the 2018 Outhouse Races.
The Coleman Unit 280 will sponsor three Badger Girls this year, while Crivitz Unit 413 will sponsor one. If any unit or post is interested in an additional sponsorship, they may contact the unit’s ALA president. The 2018 Badger Boy/Girl orientations will be held at the Crivitz Post 413 building, May 6 at 1 p.m. and at the Suring Village Hall at May 6 at 4 p.m.
The Goodman Unit 325 has three quilts ready for the 2018 Convention Quilt Project which is sponsored by the Winnebago County Council and hopes to collect 100 quilts to give to the 100 oldest veterans at the convention. For more information, persons may email or call Jill Hennes, 920-658-3211.
The Pembine Unit 461 promoted the Essay and Poppy contest and distributed rulers to each child. IM Women Veterans Program Manager Barb Robinson sent a thank you note to the units for their donations which were used to purchase newborn packages and other unique needs for female veterans. To designate funds for this project, persons may address them directly to ATTN: CLC Joyce Sporrer, Associate Rep. The 2018 Poppy Poster Contest winning entries from the various units must be sent to Deanna Farley, 9th District Poppy Chairman by April 15 for judging. Posters submitted can be displayed at the Spring Conference which will be held in Oconto Falls April 28. A show and tell event and a basket raffle and district elections for the 2018-2019 terms of office will be held. Nominations are open to all eligible members and President Becky Mueller will be endorsed for the position of Department Chaplain at the conference.
The Marinette County Council uses all raffle proceeds to help support local veterans programs.
The next meeting will be at hosted by Pembine Unit 461 March 18 at 10 a.m. and from March 17, future Marinette County Council meetings will begin at 10 a.m.
