MARINETTE — The Marinette Lions Club recently honored Lion Mike Martin for 50 years of service to the club and to his community. Guests at the event were Shirley Martin, wife of Mike Martin, Second Vice District Governor Lion Gary Johnston, Lion William and Jean Conrad of Coleman/Pound Lions Club, Aurie Feifarek, Linda Shaw, Jim and Bernie Beyer and members of the club.

Mike Martin joined the club in 1970. He was president of the club several times also holding the offices of vice president, secretary, board of directors and tail twister. He also served at the district level as zone chairman, district PR chairman and extension state parliamentarian. He is presently serving on the district cabinet and the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Board.

He has been very active in the Marinette Lions Club, serving as chairman of the Roses for Spring fundraiser for many years.

He was instrumental in starting the Lions Vision Screening Program and as a result was awarded the Knight for Sight Fellowship. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a member by the Wisconsin Eye Bank. He has received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship and is LCIF’s highest form of recognition to honor an individual’s dedication to humanitarian service. He was also awarded the Birch Sturm Fellowship for his commitment to Lionism. In addition he has received the International President Appreciation Award and the International Membership Award.
