LAKE — Donald Mansfield officially retired in November 2018.

He had served the community for 27 years. Don was one of the founding firefighters in 1991 serving under chief Jeff Olive who also retired recently. Often, Mansfield was one of the first to respond on their calls; at the station he would get the trucks started and already have the route planned or have his spot picked out at traffic incident where he helped in directing traffic to keep the crew safe. He was always first at the meetings, he would help with the sign up paperwork and setting up the tables so dinner was ready for the guys.

“Never a dull moment went by with Don around.” said Chief Craig R. Taylor, “I think I can speak for all of Town of Lake Fire Dept. When I say, Don Mansfield will be missed. Thank you for volunteering and know you can call on any of us if you need anything. It’s always a sad thing to lose any member but we all know when our time is done serving, we count on another fill the void, volunteer fireman are needed everywhere.”

If someone would like to help their community, they may contact their local fire department.
