MARINETTE — River Cities Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications from families and individuals who are interested in becoming a Habitat for Humanity homeowner in 2018-2019. The group, one of more than 100 affiliates in Michigan and Wisconsin, is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that builds or rehabilitates homes in partnership with people in need.
To qualify, applicants must be living in inadequate or substandard housing, have a stable income for the past two years, provide at least 300 hours in building their home and be willing to attend classes on credit counseling and home maintenance. This year the group is collaborating with NEWCAP and USDA and all applications will be processed by the USDA.
Habitat Family Selection Chair Janice Watkins says, “This is not a give-away program. Our families carry a mortgage payment of approximately $400-$500 per month, which includes homeowner’s insurance, property taxes, interest and the principle payment.”
For more information and to learn about the application process, persons may call Laurie Thomack at the USDA office at 715-524-8522, ext. 106.
