One hundred thirty-two representatives of the Brix family met for a reunion picnic at Red Arrow Park.
Josephine (Girard) and Frank Brix raised their 11 children in Menekaunee: Frank Jr., Phyllis (Brix LaMack Hayes), Robert, Vernon “Sonny,” Gerald, Myril, Marjorie (Brix Pettey Hyer), Laverne “Dolly” (Brix Nelson), Maryette (Brix Kuehnau), Dorothy (Brix Cambray) and Shirley (Brix Swanson).
The majority of attendees were descendants of Engelbert Brix, who came to America from Bavaria, Germany, on the ship Bremerhaven Sept. 7, 1853, with his parents Baptiste “John” Brix, age 48, his mother Maria, 49, and his sister Anna, 14.
Engelbert was 18 years old at the time. Also in attendance, were two members and their spouses from the Dorothy Brix Zeisberger family from Waukesha, Wis., and the Viola Brix Harsh family from Waterloo, Iowa.
Honored were two surviving siblings of the 11, Dolly Brix Nelson, 89, and Mabel, wife of Vernon, 88. Glen and Ruth Pettey traveled the farthest, from Farrel, Penn.
Following the reunion, a fish boil and brat fry took place to celebrate the life for Myril “Butch” Brix Jr., who passed away July 25 at 73.
