MARINETTE — Mindy Benson, supervisor of clinic operations, has been selected as Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area’s Employee of the Month for May.

Benson is a graduate of Marinette High School. She went on to Northern Michigan University and received her LPN degree. She then obtained her ADN from NWTC and her BSN from Western Govenors University. Benson is currently working towards her MHA through Walden University. She has worked at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area since 2007, working in the ED and Infection Prevention prior to assuming her current role.

As the Supervisor of Clinic Operations, Benson’s job revolves around ensuring smooth clinic operations. This includes monitoring the budget, providing staffing coverage for sick days and PTO, educating staff on policy or process changes and establishing processes for new medications, treatments or clinic procedures.

Robin Dequaine, director of Medical Staff Services, says about Benson, “Mindy is a great self-starter who is wonderful at trying to resolve issues herself, owning them from start to finish. She frequently is seen in the clinics that she manages, knowing that promoting teamwork by putting effort into her relationships with staff is very important and that you cannot manage staff and departments by sitting at your desk. Every day in her job, she is presented with things she hasn’t experienced before. She takes those challenges head on and educates herself, digs right in and then teaches others what she learned so we all learn and promote excellence in what we do.”

When asked about being an Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area employee, Benson said, “I love the small town, tight knit feel with providing state of the art and high quality of care. Your patients and co-workers are your neighbors, friends and faces at the grocery store. Everyone here truly cares about the outcome of all patient experiences. The teamwork that Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area provides is living proof that the success is driven through the employees.” Additionally, when asked what she likes best about her job, she said, “I love the daily variety. I have great staff and enjoy encouraging them to see their own potential and then visualizing this through the patient care and interactions they provide.”

Seven other employees were named Service Care Stars for excelling at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area’s Service Care standards: Casey Charlier, RN — OB/GYN; Stephanie Bourion, DI tech — radiology; Tory Wettstein, exercise physiologist — cardiac rehab; Cindy Woods, LPN — occupational health; Connie Joslin, RN — med surg; Alicia Zelazoski, therapy aide — Stephenson; and Stephanie Lindquist, RN — med surg.
