MARINETTE — Shauna Cooley, RN – Cancer Center, has been selected as Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area’s Employee of the Month for July.

Cooley is a graduate of Stephenson High School. She graduated from Bay de Noc Community College in 2005 with her RN Associates Degree. While employed with Aurora Medical Center - Bay Area, she has also worked on the Med Surg unit and in the Surgery Clinic.

As a Triage RN in the Cancer Center, Cooley triages most of the incoming phone calls from the clinic’s patients, family members, pharmacists and other members of the patients’ healthcare team. She works directly with the medical oncologists to assist with patient care needs. Cooley schedules a variety of testing for patients and calls them with test results and to coordinate referrals. She also coordinates all of the oral chemotherapy for the patients, as well as provides them with the proper education prior to starting oral chemotherapy. Lastly, Cooley makes sure to educate and comfort the patients to ease their fears and make the process as effortless as possible for them during this difficult time in their life.

Elicia Paasch, Clinic Manager, says about Cooley, “Shauna has a great ability to work on an extraprofessional team. She works hard to help ensure that patient questions are answered and that the patient clearly knows what the next steps are, and that all team members are aware. Shauna has an excellent positive, caring and patient personality making her very good at her clinic triage role.”

When asked about being an Aurora Medical Center - Bay Area employee, Cooley said, “I am honored to be a part of this team. I have a job that I truly enjoy every day and feel that my role is valued, respected and supported by my co-workers, management and administration. Working in a smaller community hospital is great because we are able to provide excellent, high-quality care locally. At Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area, we ensure great care to not only our patients but to our family and friends. I really enjoy working in an amazing facility with wonderful co-workers who I am proud to call my friends.”

Lastly, when asked what she likes best about her job, Cooley said, “What I enjoy most about my job is the interactions I have with our patients and staff members. Every patient interaction is rewarding, from a simple ‘thank you’ to seeing a smile on their face or showing that something I helped with made a difference. I take pride in making every experience the most positive it can be for our patients.”

Employees celebrating anniversaries at Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area this month include Kathleen Willman with 40 years of service, Lois Kennedy and Darlene Caine with 35 years of service, Troy Moberg with 20 years of service, Nicole Ruleau and Michael Orlando with 15 years of service, and Cindy Chrisman with 5 years of service.
