MARINETTE — Shawn Kipp, MRI Technologist, has been selected as Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area’s Employee of the Month for August.

Kipp is a graduate of Stephenson High School. She went on to attend Lakeshore Technical College to receive her degree in Radiology in 1999. Kipp became certified as a Radiographic Technologist in 2000 with the ARRT and she also belongs to the ASRT. She cross-trained into MRI in 2016 and passed her boards to become registered in March of 2019. While employed at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area, she also received Service Care awards for “Treats Others as Guests” and “Makes Positive First Impressions.”

As a MRI Technologist, Kipp’s daily responsibilities vary. They include, but are not limited to, answering phones, checking schedules, screening patients, giving patients a thorough explanation of their scans, starting IVs and working with the radiologists and other doctors to ensure the proper and most efficient scans are performed.

Mike Florip, director of Diagnostic Imaging, says about Kipp, “Shawn is team-focused, as displayed by her congenial demeanor. She’s always willing to assist regardless of the situation. Shawn excels at establishing a connection with patients, making them feel comfortable and ensuring their experience has a positive outcome.”

When asked about being an Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area (AMCBA) employee, Kipp said, “AMCBA is great because of all my co-workers. They are all like family, which makes the experience for patients during a difficult time, hopefully, that much better. And that’s the most important thing — our patients. I love being a part of that.” Also, when asked what she likes best about her job, Kipp said, “I love working with the patients to get them through their scans in the most efficient ways, especially the claustrophobic patients. I try to make them feel the best they possibly can and to put their minds at ease.”

Seven other employees were named Service Care Stars for excelling in Service Care standards: Dr. Michael Karkkainen, surgeon — surgery clinic; Carlie Dell, RN — emergency; Rob Poetzl, DI tech — tadiology; Jen Thompson, senior marketing specialist; Angela Nerat, PCT — GI services; Sarah Shampo, RN — OB/GYN; Jacque Starzynski, RN — surgery.
