WAUSAUKEE - After district taxpayers failed approve a second referendum, the Wausaukee School Board of Education unanimously agreed Thursday to dissolve the district.
The dissolution will be effective July 1, 2009.
The referendum Tuesday asked voters to give the board authority to exceed the revenue limit by an amount of $575,000. The vote was 544 for the referendum and 563 against.
With several district taxpayers, employees and students in attendance at the school media center, each board member shared their frustration and concerns over the failed referendum.
Each one said there is nothing more they could do without taxpayer support.
With the board of education electing to choose dissolution, the school district will now follow a form of bankruptcy proceedings in order to become solvent again.
After a brief closed session to discuss personnel matters, district residents were allowed to come back into the media center to discuss the ramifications of the decision to dissolve the district. See Saturday's EagleHerald for a followup story.
