MARINETTE - Faced with post-retirement liabilities amounting to $19 million, the Marinette Board of Education is taking steps to whittle away that amount and aggressively search for savings in other areas.
The board met Tuesday night where action was taken to approve the issuance and sale of $8.7 million in taxable general obligation refunding bonds. The current interest rate is 5 percent but a representative from Robert W. Baird & Co. told the board it could refinance the bonds at 2.38 percent for the next seven years, the life of the loan. That would produce an estimated saving of $350,000. Thursday, May 17, 2012
