MENOMINEE - Menominee pulled its old uniforms and bats out of the moth balls to pull out of a 19-inning dark hole Tuesday night.
Menominee players congratulate Landen Maccoux (11) after he bashed a solo home run against Peshtigo in their game Tuesday night at Spies Field.
Menominee snapped a three-game losing streak and evened its Fox River Valley Conference North Division record at 3-3 with an 8-5 win over Peshtigo at Spies Field.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was washed out and will be played July 18 at Peshtigo.
Coming off three straight shutout losses, the Red Wave left a string of 19 straight scoreless innings in the dust with three runs in the first inning.
Ryan Woods beat out an infield grounder and made a dash to third on a throwing error. Derek Reiswitz ended the Wave scoring drought when he blooped an RBI single to center.
Ryne Francour reached on an infield error and Landen Maccoux was plunked by a pitch to load the bases. Mason's Kewley's infield single gave Post 146 a 2-0 lead and Michael Melchoir coaxed a walk to force in the third run of the inning.
"We turned things around a little bit tonight," coach Tony Hofer said.
Menominee strung together four hits to pad its lead to 7-0 in the third inning.
Kewley poked a single to left and Caleb Kleiman came through with a two-out single to right. Kewley scored when Peshtigo fired to second on Kleiman's steal.
Riley Hegg drew a walk and he and Kleiman moved up a base on a wild pitch, setting up Jaden Kleinke's two-run double to the leftfield fence. Kleinke raced home on a passed ball.
Reiswitz blanked Peshtigo on one hit before giving up two runs in the fourth inning. Zac Pickle walked and scored on Tommy Quigley's double to left. Quigley scored on a throwing error to chip the deficit to 7-2.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Maccoux muscled a line shot over the fence in left.
"He hasn't been hitting lately, so that was good to see him get that one," Hofer noted.
Zack Neumann slapped a leadoff single in the Peshtigo sixth, Andrew Majewski legged out in infield single and Trevor Bero drove in his teammates with a two-run double as the rain began to fall.
Pickle drew a walk in the seventh and scored on an error. Reiswitz forced a game-ending grounder as the rain turned into a downpour.
"We're hitting the ball better, but we're still making mistakes," Peshtigo coach Geoff Sparks said. "You can't tell when we're the losing team. They're all having fun and that's the big thing."
Reiswitz allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked three while picking up his second win without a loss.
"Derek pitched good," Hofer said. "He threw strikes again."
Kewley's two hits led Menominee's eight-hit attack.
Berth allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out three in his five innings. Bero pitched a scoreless sixth.
"Jordan pitched a great game," coach Sparks said. "We have a young team. We just made too many mistakes."
Marcus Sharkey had two hits for Peshtigo (0-8 North Division).
Menominee (9-10-1) plays host to Marinette at 7 tonight. Post 39 heads into the game with a 10-game winning streak.
