DE PERE, Wis. — Clutch relief pitching, some timely hitting and a never-say-die attitude carried the Menominee Red
Wave to a 7-6 win over De Pere’s 17-and-under team Thursday evening.
Menominee rallied to take the lead with a threerun fifth inning, fell behind in the sixth, and battled back in the seventh. Landen Maccoux started
the winning rally with a leadoff walk in the seventh.
Mark Pulver singled.
With runners on second and third, Mason Kewley hit into a fielder’s choice, and a throwing error allowed two runs to score. Menominee took a 1-0 lead in the first on Maccoux’s RBI single.
De Pere scored three runs on five walks and a hit batsman.
Riley Hegg relieved Andrew Estrada, got the final two outs of the first inning, and went the rest of the way to earn the win
in relief. Hegg yielded two earned runs on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
“Riley came in and did a very good job for about three or four innings,” Menominee coach Tony Hofer said.
In the fourth, Maccoux walked and scored on Hegg’s base hit.
In the fifth, Ryne Francour walked, Ryan Woods was hit by a pitch, and Matt Hanson launched a two-run triple
for a 5-3 Menominee lead. Tyler Roose and Mike Larson singled and Jave Vodai doubled in De Pere’s three-run sixth.
“If we can keep the defense and pitching up, we’ll be all right,” Hofer said, expecting the hitting
to come around.
De Pere is 3-3 in the
Fox River Valley Legion
League North Division.
