DE PERE, Wis. - Coming off a good performance at the Marinette Firecracker Tourney, the Menominee Red Wave suffered a letdown on Monday night.

De Pere, which is ranked seventh among Wisconsin American Legion AAA teams, crushed the Red Wave 9-0.

Menominee coach Tony Hofer said his team came out a little flat and didn't make the plays in the field that it needed to stay in the game.

"Little hangover game today from the weekend," he said. "After a long weekend, we needed to come out with more energy but didn't happen."

Paul Grant pitched a complete-game three-hitter, with just one walk and six strikeouts.

Mark Pulver pitched the first two innings for Menominee and allowed six runs - four earned - on four hits with one strikeout and three walks. In four innings, Riley Hegg had four K's, no walks and allowed three runs - two earned - on four hits.

De Pere scored three runs in the second inning. After a fielder's choice, Grant walked, Jacob Buboltz tripled in two runs and he scored on a throwing error.

Walks to Conner Rutherford and Will Reabe, sandwiched around an Evan Heim single, set the stage for three runs in the third. Two runs scored on an infield error and Reabe scored on a sacrifice fly.

Rutherford hit a leadoff double and scored in the fourth.

In the fifth, Reynolds reached on an infield error, Grant singled and Buboltz singled in two runs.

De Pere is coached by former Red Wave player and coach Kevin Norman.

Landen Maccoux, Jaden Kleinke and Derek Reiswitz each had a hit for Menominee (25-17).

"One game doesn't make a season, so we will get back on that horse and try and get things corrected for Thursday," Hofer said. Menominee will play at Marinette Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
